Artic Monkeys....

Apparently on the first day in the UK the Artic Monkeys sold 85K. Any thoughts on what they will sell here? I do have to admit, the later part of Favourite Worst Nightmare is actually quite good! There I said it!

TRL changes it's name?

Okay, okay so MTV fired a bunch of people in an effort to build a new "business model." But during that time they thought it was a good idea to rename TRL "YouRL? " Ummm are they on crack? Who thought that was a good idea? Just because YouTube is a big sensation and now Universal / NBC is releasing "NewTube" (which is also not very inventive) in the near future, so why did MTV think youRL was a good re-branding attempt? I think not....keep trying MTV. Maybe if you actually went back to playing videos that were actually good then you'd increase your viewership.

Pure genius.

Courtney Love is cheap

In a recent interview with AOL Music, Courtney Love has explained how she is going to auction off the remaining evidence of Kurt Cobain's existence from her so called "mausoleum." She stated that she's keeping a sweater, sheet music to "(Smells Like) Teen Spirit" and a guitar for Frances, but as far as the infamous flannels go, they're outta here (for the right price that is). Is this a desperate attempt at trying to gain some more cash off the last remaining things that belonged to Kurt (I mean she did sell the rights for commercial use?!?!) or is she really trying to purge that part of her life away? Not sure how I feel about it. I mean, if her place is such a "mausoleum" why not just make a mini museum and charge tickets?!@ You'll probably make more money over time from that anyway.

"Sky Blue Sky" - Can Wilco do it again?

Above is the artwork for Wilco's new album Sky Blue Sky. I've been listening to it over the past few days and I can't really gauge where my feelings fall on the 1 to 10 scale. But I can tell you that the album does seem to throw back to their earlier alt-country roots and give you enough twangy guitar to keep you satisfied for days. Overall it's a great combination of achey jazzy blues, soothing folk, twangy rock and good ol' country. My favorite tracks so far are "Shake It off" and "Hate It Here." Keep on rocking Wilco because I'm a still a fan of your work.

The track list Sky Blue Sky (which hits stores May 15th, 2007) is as follows:

"Either Way"
"You Are My Face"
"Impossible Germany"
"Sky Blue Sky"
"Side With the Seeds"
"Shake It Off"
"Please Be Patient With Me"
"Hate it Here"
"Leave Me (Like You Found Me)"
"Walken"
"What Light"
"On And On And On"

Recycling is not just a hippy movement....

This weekend I was having some beers in a sushi place in Williamsburg. I was about to throw away the beer bottles when I noticed that they didn't have a separate recycling bin. I asked if they had one in the back (that's my inner hippy speaking) and the guy basically laughed in my face. Not that I'm one of those people to yell when you don't recycle, but come on! YOU ARE A RESTAURANT THAT GENERATES ABOVE AVERAGE AMOUNTS OF TRASH!@#?!@ WHY DON'T YOU RECYCLE DAMMIT. I tried to bargain with the guy to say how I've been recycling for a long time, yadda yadda yadda, but this didn't seem to phase him in the least bit. In light of the what I would call ignorant thinking, I stumbled across this gcylce site about recycling old batters, tech stuff and gadgets, etc. Even though I consider myself somewhat educated in the recycling field I never once thought about batteries and old gadgets?!!?! So who's the ignorant one now? None-the-less, the cute animation and fish slapping antics have made me even more aware of what it means to save the environment. See for yourself.

Wiiiiiiiiiii

I finally had the opportunity to get my own little hands on a Wii this weekend. My roommate has managed to snag her self one and it has brought instant gratification to my days. All I have to say is AWESOME!?! The controllers are quite sensitive, but once you get the hang of it you are in for an automatic good time. My only complaint thus far is how badly my upper body hurts from the boxing game. That's definitely not a bad thing, but who would have thought that you can work out while enjoying stoner-esque good times! Not I! I think that this is an excellent opportunity to introduce exercise into the youth of America who are battling obesity due to parents allowing them to shove McDonalds down their throats day in and day out. The following link discusses the current rise in obesity and how if it stays as steady as it has been that it will beat smoking as one of the single biggest causes in preventable deaths. So for those Americans who are too lazy to walk around the block a couple of times or to at least break out the bicycle for the beautiful weather we have going on, the Wii is your solution to laziness.
